What is Her Fearless Heart?

Her Fearless Heart began in the spring of 2008 as a personal blog, written when I was just 17 years old. What started as a place to explore my own experiences, frustrations, and challenges quickly grew into something much larger. As the words resonated, people from Australia and around the world began reaching out — sharing their own stories, reflections, and struggles. What emerged was not just a blog, but a shared space grounded in honesty, vulnerability, and connection.

As the community grew, so did the need for something more intentional. In 2009, Her Fearless Heart evolved into an organisation dedicated to strengthening mental health support and reducing the isolation so often experienced by those who are struggling. During this time, I spent countless hours listening, responding, and sitting with people in their pain, while also working collaboratively to create campaigns and initiatives aimed at challenging stigma and opening conversations around mental health. These included community-led events such as Hands Up for Suicide Prevention, Planting Flowers for Mental Health, and Origami Butterflies for Eating Disorder Awareness.

In 2014, this commitment to shared experience and collective voice was further reflected in the publication of Mental Health (& Other Issues) Survival Guide. The book brought together practical guidance alongside personal insights and stories drawn from the many individuals who had connected with Her Fearless Heart, reinforcing the power of lived experience in fostering understanding, resilience, and hope.

As Her Fearless Heart continued to grow, so too did the ways support was offered. In 2021, an official counselling service was introduced to provide more structured, ongoing care for those seeking it. With a strong awareness of the financial barriers many face when accessing mental health support, this service was designed to be low-cost and accessible via phone, video, or online chat.

Today, Her Fearless Heart continues to evolve while returning to what has always been at its core: human connection. It remains a space shaped by lived experience, shared stories, and the belief that no one should have to navigate their mental health alone.
